Adultery is a grave, mortal sin defined as sexual relations between a married person and someone other than their spouse, violating the marriage covenant. Jesus expanded this to include lustful thoughts and desires, equating looking at someone with lust to committing adultery in the heart. It’s considered a serious offense against God, the spouse, family, and society, damaging the sacred bond of marriage.
