Idolatry is the sin of giving divine honor or worship to anything other than the one true God, essentially divinizing an object or creature (like power, money, pleasure, or even a statue) and putting it in God’s place, violating the first commandment. It’s a fundamental betrayal of God’s unique universal Lordship, stemming from disordered affections where a person elevates something created to be their ultimate concern, even if they don’t literally think it’s God.
