Saint Michael the Archangel is the great prince of the heavenly host and the defender of God’s people against the powers of evil. His name means “Who is like unto God?”—a battle cry against the pride and rebellion of Satan. Sacred Scripture portrays Michael as the leader of the faithful angels who cast the devil and his followers out of Heaven during the great spiritual battle.
Throughout Christian tradition, Saint Michael is honored as a protector, warrior, and guardian of souls. He is invoked against demonic forces, temptation, and spiritual danger, and is often depicted carrying a sword or spear while defeating the dragon of the Apocalypse. The Church has long encouraged the faithful to seek his intercession for strength and protection in spiritual warfare.
