Theotokos

Card Type: Intercessor | Timeline: Trinitas
Overview:

“Theotokos” translated as “God-bearer” or “Mother of God”.
Mary, the Blessed Virgin and Mother of God, was chosen by God to bear Jesus Christ, the Son of God made flesh. Full of grace and preserved in holiness, Mary humbly accepted the message of the Angel Gabriel at the Annunciation, responding with perfect obedience: “Be it done to me according to thy word.” Through her faithfulness, the Savior entered the world for the redemption of mankind.

Mary accompanied Christ throughout His earthly life, from His birth in Bethlehem to His crucifixion on Calvary, where she remained faithfully beside the Cross. Christ entrusted her to His disciples as a spiritual mother to the faithful. After the Resurrection, Mary remained with the early Church in prayer and devotion.

Honored throughout Christian history, Mary is recognized as the model of purity, humility, and obedience to God. Her maternal intercession and closeness to Christ have made her one of the most beloved figures in the Catholic faith.
