Amos was a prophet of the Old Testament whom God called from a humble life as a shepherd and caretaker of sycamore trees to proclaim His message to the Kingdom of Israel. Though not a member of a prophetic family, Amos faithfully obeyed God’s call and spoke boldly against injustice, corruption, and false worship during a time of prosperity and moral decline.
Amos warned that religious ceremonies and sacrifices were meaningless if the people neglected righteousness and oppressed the poor. He condemned those who exploited the needy, perverted justice, and trusted in wealth rather than in God. Through his prophecies, Amos called Israel to repentance and reminded the nation that God’s judgment applies to all people, regardless of status or privilege.
Although his message included warnings of coming punishment, Amos also proclaimed hope, foretelling a future restoration of God’s people. His life and ministry remain a powerful witness to the importance of justice, fidelity, and obedience to the Lord.
