Saint George was a Christian soldier and martyr who lived during the persecution of Christians under Emperor Diocletian. Though he held a respected position in the Roman military, George openly professed his faith in Jesus Christ and refused to renounce it when ordered to do so by the authorities.
For his steadfast witness, George endured imprisonment, torture, and ultimately martyrdom. His courage and fidelity made him one of the most venerated saints in Christian history. Over time, stories of his heroic defense of the innocent gave rise to the famous tradition of Saint George and the dragon, a symbolic account representing the triumph of faith over evil.
