Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati was a young Italian Catholic renowned for his joyful faith, love for the poor, and commitment to living the Gospel in everyday life. Born into a prominent family in Turin, Italy, Pier Giorgio chose a path of humility and service rather than seeking status or wealth. While studying engineering, he devoted much of his time to charitable works, often giving away his money, food, and possessions to those in need.
An avid mountaineer, Pier Giorgio saw mountain climbing as a symbol of the Christian journey toward God. He combined a vibrant social life, academic studies, outdoor adventures, and deep spiritual devotion, demonstrating that holiness can be lived fully in the midst of ordinary life. He attended Mass frequently, practiced Eucharistic adoration, prayed the Rosary, and was actively involved in Catholic organizations.
Pier Giorgio died in 1925 at the age of twenty-four after contracting polio, likely while serving the poor. At his funeral, thousands of people whom he had quietly helped came to pay their respects, revealing the extent of his hidden charity. His life continues to inspire young people to pursue holiness through friendship, service, courage, and love of Christ.
