“Joshua’s Spies” recalls the two faithful spies sent by Joshua to scout the city of Jericho before Israel entered the Promised Land. Unlike the earlier spies sent by Moses, whose fearful report discouraged the people, these men trusted in God’s promises and returned with confidence that the Lord would deliver the land into Israel’s hands.
Upon entering Jericho, the spies were sheltered by Rahab, who recognized the power of the God of Israel and protected them from the king’s soldiers. In return, the spies promised that she and her family would be spared when the city fell. After safely returning to Joshua, they reported that the inhabitants of the land were filled with fear because of the mighty works God had performed for His people.
The mission of Joshua’s spies demonstrated the importance of faith, courage, discernment, and trust in God’s promises. Their successful reconnaissance helped prepare Israel for the conquest of Jericho and highlighted how God can work through unexpected people, such as Rahab, to accomplish His purposes.
