Samuel’s Blessing refers to the anointing and blessing of David by the prophet Samuel. After King Saul’s disobedience, God instructed Samuel to go to Bethlehem and anoint one of the sons of Jesse as the future king of Israel.
When Samuel arrived, he initially assumed that David’s older brothers would be chosen because of their appearance and stature. However, God reminded him that He looks not at outward appearance but at the heart. David, the youngest son and a shepherd, was then brought before Samuel. At God’s command, Samuel anointed him with oil in the presence of his family.
From that day forward, the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. This event marked God’s choice of David as Israel’s future king and began the rise of the Davidic dynasty, from which the Messiah, Jesus Christ, would eventually come.
