Saint James, son of Alphaeus, was one of the Twelve Apostles chosen by Jesus Christ (Matthew 10:2–4). He is commonly known as James the Less, likely to distinguish him from James, the son of Zebedee. Although little is recorded about him in the Gospels, his inclusion among the Twelve reflects his faithful discipleship and his close association with Christ throughout His earthly ministry.
Following the Resurrection and Pentecost, James joined the Apostles in proclaiming the Gospel and helping establish the early Church (Acts 1:13). Christian tradition remembers him as a humble and devoted servant of Christ who persevered in preaching the faith despite opposition. He is believed to have suffered martyrdom for his witness to the Gospel.
Though Scripture preserves few details about his life, Saint James the Less is honored for his fidelity, humility, and dedication to the mission entrusted to the Apostles.
