Saint Matthias was the disciple chosen to replace Judas Iscariot among the Twelve Apostles after Christ’s Ascension. Having followed Jesus from the time of His baptism to His Resurrection, Matthias was considered a faithful witness to the Lord’s ministry (Acts 1:21–22). After prayer, the Apostles cast lots, and Matthias was chosen to take Judas’s place among the Twelve (Acts 1:23–26).
Following Pentecost, Matthias joined the Apostles in proclaiming the Gospel and helping establish the early Church. Christian tradition holds that he preached the faith in various regions and endured persecution for the sake of Christ. He is remembered for his faithfulness, humility, and willingness to serve when called by God.
The life of Saint Matthias demonstrates that God often prepares individuals quietly and faithfully before calling them to greater responsibilities in His plan.
