Saint Simon the Zealot was one of the Twelve Apostles chosen by Jesus Christ (Luke 6:13–16). The title “Zealot” likely distinguishes him from Simon Peter and may indicate his former association with a zealous movement within Judaism. After answering Christ’s call, Simon became a faithful disciple and witness to His ministry, death, and Resurrection.
Following Pentecost, Simon joined the Apostles in spreading the Gospel. Christian tradition holds that he traveled extensively as a missionary, preaching Christ in various lands. Despite persecution and opposition, Simon remained steadfast in his faith and ultimately suffered martyrdom for the Gospel.
Though little is recorded about him in Scripture, Simon’s life reflects wholehearted devotion to Christ and the willingness to sacrifice everything for the Kingdom of God.
