The Ascension recalls the moment when Jesus Christ, forty days after His Resurrection, ascended into heaven before His disciples. After teaching them about the Kingdom of God and commissioning them to preach the Gospel to all nations, Jesus was taken up into heaven and seated at the right hand of the Father (Acts 1:6–11; Mark 16:19).
The Ascension marked the completion of Christ’s earthly ministry and the beginning of the Church’s mission. Though no longer visibly present, Jesus promised to remain with His followers and to send the Holy Spirit to empower them (Acts 1:8). The event also gives believers hope, for Christ’s Ascension foreshadows the eternal destiny of those who belong to Him.
The Ascension symbolizes Christ’s victory, kingship, heavenly intercession, and the promise of eternal life.
