The Garden of Gethsemane is the place at the foot of the Mount of Olives where Jesus Christ prayed on the night before His crucifixion. After the Last Supper, Jesus went there with His disciples and entered into deep prayer as He prepared to fulfill the Father’s will. In His agony, He prayed that the cup of suffering might pass from Him, yet submitted completely to God’s plan, saying, “Not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42).
Gethsemane was also the site of Jesus’ betrayal by Judas and His arrest, marking the beginning of His Passion. The garden stands as a powerful witness to Christ’s obedience, humility, and sacrificial love.
As a sacred place, Gethsemane symbolizes prayer in times of trial, surrender to God’s will, and perseverance amid suffering.
