The Council of Trent was a major ecumenical council of the Catholic Church held between 1545 and 1563. Convened during a period of religious division and reform, the council sought to clarify Catholic doctrine, address challenges raised during the Protestant Reformation, and promote renewal within the Church.
The council reaffirmed key teachings concerning Scripture and Tradition, the sacraments, the Eucharist, justification, and the authority of the Church. It also introduced important reforms aimed at improving the education of clergy, strengthening pastoral care, and correcting abuses that had contributed to calls for reform.
The Council of Trent became one of the most influential events in Catholic history, shaping the Church’s doctrine, worship, and discipline for centuries. Its work helped guide a period of spiritual renewal and missionary expansion throughout the world.
