St. Ananias of Damascus was a disciple of Jesus who played a crucial role in the conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle. After Saul’s encounter with the risen Christ on the road to Damascus, God appeared to Ananias in a vision and instructed him to visit Saul, who had been left blind by the experience. Though initially fearful because of Saul’s reputation as a persecutor of Christians, Ananias obeyed God’s command in faith.
Upon meeting Saul, Ananias laid hands on him, restoring his sight and helping prepare him for baptism. Through Ananias’ obedience, Saul was welcomed into the Christian community and began the journey that would make him one of the Church’s greatest missionaries.
Ananias is remembered as an example of courage, trust in God’s plan, and willingness to serve even those who seem unlikely to receive His grace.
