Saint Mark, also known as John Mark, was an early Christian evangelist and the traditionally recognized author of the Gospel of Mark. He is closely associated with the missionary work of Saint Peter the Apostle, from whom he is believed to have received much of the material for his Gospel. His writing presents a vivid and direct account of the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Mark also accompanied Saint Paul the Apostle on parts of his missionary journeys and later became a trusted companion of Peter in Rome. His Gospel emphasizes the actions and authority of Jesus, portraying Him as the suffering Son of God who brings salvation through His sacrifice.
He is traditionally considered the founder of the Church in Alexandria, where he is believed to have preached the Gospel and been martyred.
