Saint Christopher is one of the most well-known saints in Christian tradition. Although the historical details of his life are limited, he is traditionally honored as a martyr who lived during the early centuries of Christianity. His name, meaning “”Christ-bearer,”” is associated with a popular tradition in which he carried a child across a dangerous river, only to discover that the child was Jesus Christ, bearing the weight of the world.
This story symbolizes the Christian calling to carry Christ faithfully and to serve others with courage and humility. Over the centuries, Saint Christopher became especially associated with safe travel and protection during journeys.
While the legendary accounts surrounding him are devotional rather than historical, Christopher remains a powerful symbol of faith, service, and trust in God’s protection.
