The Crown of Thorns is a revered Christian relic associated with the Passion of Jesus Christ. According to the Gospels, Roman soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and placed it upon Jesus’ head as an act of mockery before His crucifixion, ridiculing His claim to kingship. What was intended as humiliation became, for Christians, a powerful symbol of Christ’s sacrificial love, humility, and victory through suffering.
Over the centuries, various relics believed to be connected to the Crown of Thorns have been venerated by Christians. The most famous tradition is associated with the relic preserved for centuries in Notre-Dame de Paris and safeguarded by the Church as an object of devotion and reflection on Christ’s Passion.
The Crown of Thorns symbolizes Christ’s kingship, His willingness to suffer for humanity, and the redemption won through His sacrifice.
