Card Type: Intercessor | Timeline: Church Tradition
Overview:

Saint Jerome of Stridon was a fourth- and fifth-century priest, scholar, monk, and Doctor of the Church best known for translating the Bible into Latin. His translation, known as the Vulgate, became the standard biblical text of the Western Church for over a millennium and had a profound influence on Christian theology, worship, and biblical study.

Jerome devoted much of his life to the study of Scripture, learning Hebrew and Greek so that he could translate the biblical texts with greater accuracy. He spent many years in Bethlehem, where he pursued prayer, scholarship, and writing. His extensive commentaries and letters helped generations of Christians better understand the Bible.

Known for his intellectual rigor and passionate defense of the faith, Jerome emphasized that a deep knowledge of Scripture is essential for Christian life. His dedication to God’s Word made him one of the most influential biblical scholars in Church history.
