The Parting of the Red Sea was the miraculous event in which the Israelites were liberated from Egypt. After Pharoah’s repeated defiance of Moses through the ten plagues inflicted by God, which culminated in the death of every firstborn in the land, the Egyptian king finally agreed to let the people go. As the people made their way out of Egypt, Pharoah once again became hard of heart and in a furious rage set out with his armies and chariots to catch and once again enslave the Israelites. As Moses and his people became trapped between the Red Sea and the approaching Egyptian army. God commanded him to raise his staff and his right hand over the water. God then caused the waters to part and made a dry path through to the other side. The Israelites passed through the red sea on dry land between two massive walls of sea water. As the people made it through to the other side, Pharoah commanded his armies to pursue them through the gap. God then caused the waters to collapse back in on the Egyptians wiping out the armies and chariots as Pharoah helplessly watched. God led His people to freedom and saved them through water, which points to the waters of baptism.
Exodus 14:21–22 – Moses stretches out his hand over the sea; the waters part, and the Israelites Walk through on dry ground.
Exodus 14:23–28 – The Egyptians pursue them, but the waters return and drown Pharaoh’s army.
Exodus 14:29–31 – The Israelites safely cross and praise God for His deliverance.
