Jealousy is a sorrow at another’s good fortune, contradicting charity (love) by desiring what others have or resenting their blessings, and can lead to hatred, detraction, and other vices, though “jealousy” protecting legitimate bonds (like God’s for His people) isn’t always sinful; true sin involves envy (sadness at others’ good) or possessive, harmful jealousy. The cure involves humility, gratitude, focusing on God’s blessings, and rejoicing in others’ good.
