Saint Gabriel the Archangel is the heavenly messenger chosen by God to announce divine mysteries and proclaim the fulfillment of His saving plan. In Sacred Scripture, Gabriel appears as a faithful servant standing before God, bringing messages of prophecy, hope, and salvation to His people.
Gabriel is most honored for announcing the Incarnation of Jesus Christ to the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Annunciation. Greeting Mary with the words, “Hail, full of grace,” Gabriel revealed that she would conceive and bear the Son of God through the power of the Holy Ghost. Through this message, the long-awaited redemption of mankind began to unfold.
Gabriel also appeared to the prophet Daniel to explain visions and to Zachary to announce the birth of Saint John the Baptist. Because of his role as divine messenger, Gabriel is regarded as a patron of communication, proclamation, and evangelization. His obedience and faithfulness reflect the glory of God’s providence and the joyful announcement of salvation.
