Saint Raphael the Archangel is the heavenly guide and healer sent by God to protect and assist His faithful servants. His name means “God heals,” reflecting his mission of healing, deliverance, and guidance throughout Sacred Scripture. Raphael is best known from the Book of Tobias, where he appears disguised as a traveler and accompanies the young Tobias on a dangerous journey.
During the journey, Raphael protects Tobias from harm, instructs him in wisdom, and helps free Sara from the torment of a demon. Through God’s power, Raphael also restores the sight of Tobias’ father, Tobit, bringing healing and joy to the family. Only after completing his mission does Raphael reveal his true identity as one of the seven angels who stand before God.
Because of his role as protector and healer, Saint Raphael is honored as a patron of travelers, the sick, and those seeking guidance. His ministry reflects God’s mercy, providence, and care for His people in times of danger and suffering.
