Saint Joseph was the chaste spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the earthly guardian of Jesus Christ. A humble carpenter descended from the house of David, Joseph faithfully protected and provided for the Holy Family through obedience, labor, and trust in God. Though little of his words are recorded in Scripture, his actions reveal a man of deep righteousness, humility, and steadfast faith.
After receiving divine messages through dreams, Joseph obeyed God without hesitation, taking Mary as his wife, fleeing with the Christ Child into Egypt to escape King Herod, and later returning safely to Nazareth. Through his honest labor as a craftsman, Joseph cared for Jesus and taught Him the dignity of work and daily life.
Saint Joseph became a model of faithful fatherhood, purity, and quiet service. Under the title “Saint Joseph the Worker,” the Church especially honors the sanctity of labor and the dignity of workers who serve God through honest work and perseverance.

Joseph returns with the Holy Family to Nazareth after Herod’s death.

Joseph accompanies Mary and Jesus to Jerusalem for Passover.

Jesus is identified as the carpenter’s son.
