Saint Padre Pio, born Francesco Forgione in Italy, was a Capuchin friar renowned for his deep holiness, devotion to prayer, and extraordinary spiritual gifts. From a young age, he desired to serve God and entered the Capuchin Order, dedicating his life to prayer, penance, and the care of souls.
Padre Pio became widely known after receiving the stigmata—the wounds corresponding to those of Christ’s Crucifixion—which he bore for many years. Despite physical suffering and intense scrutiny, he remained humble and obedient to the Church. Thousands sought his counsel, especially through the Sacrament of Confession, where he was known for guiding sinners toward repentance and reconciliation with God.
His life was marked by profound devotion to the Holy Eucharist, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and prayer, particularly the Rosary.
