The Fall of Jericho recalls one of the most remarkable victories granted by God to the Israelites as they entered the Promised Land. After the death of Moses, God appointed Joshua to lead His people across the Jordan River and into Canaan. The fortified city of Jericho stood as a formidable obstacle, protected by strong walls and defenses that appeared impossible to overcome by ordinary means.
Rather than relying on conventional warfare, God commanded Joshua to have the Israelites march around the city once each day for six days, accompanied by priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant and blowing trumpets. On the seventh day, they marched around the city seven times. At Joshua’s command, the people raised a great shout, and the walls of Jericho collapsed by the power of God.
The victory demonstrated that Israel’s success depended not on military strength but on faith and obedience to the Lord. The account also highlights the faith of Rahab, who had protected Joshua’s spies and whose family was spared during the city’s destruction.
