Holy Ground recalls the places made sacred by the presence of God throughout the Old Testament. While all creation belongs to the Lord, certain locations became especially holy because God revealed Himself there, entered into covenant with His people, or performed mighty acts of salvation. These places inspired reverence, worship, and awe before the majesty of God.
The most famous example occurs when Moses encounters the Lord in the burning bush. God commands him, “Remove the shoes from thy feet: for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.” The ground itself was not holy by nature but became holy because of God’s presence. Similar moments occurred at Mount Sinai, where God gave the Law to Israel, and at the Tabernacle, where His glory dwelt among His people.
Holy Ground symbolizes the reality that God enters human history and sanctifies what He touches. It reminds believers to approach God with humility, reverence, and obedience, recognizing His holiness and sovereignty.

The glory of God fills Solomon’s Temple.

Isaiah beholds the holiness of God and is overwhelmed by His presence.
