The Nazarite Vow was a special act of consecration to God established in the Law of Moses. Men or women who took the vow voluntarily dedicated themselves to the Lord through practices of holiness, self-discipline, and sacrifice. During the period of the vow, they abstained from wine and grape products, avoided contact with the dead, and did not cut their hair as an outward sign of their dedication to God (Numbers 6:1–21).
Several notable figures in Scripture are associated with Nazarite consecration. Samson was set apart from birth and received extraordinary strength through God’s blessing (Judges 13:2–7; 16:17). Samuel was dedicated to the Lord by his mother, Hannah (1 Samuel 1:11). The Nazarite Vow symbolizes purity, devotion, and a life set apart for God’s purposes.
