Saint Thomas Aquinas was a Dominican friar, priest, and theologian whose writings profoundly shaped Christian thought. Possessing an extraordinary intellect and deep faith, he dedicated his life to studying Scripture, philosophy, and theology in order to better understand and explain the truths of the Christian faith.
His most famous work, the Summa Theologiae, sought to present Christian doctrine in a clear and systematic way. Thomas demonstrated that faith and reason are not opposed but work together, since both ultimately originate from God. His teachings continue to influence theology, philosophy, education, and apologetics throughout the world.
Known for his humility as well as his brilliance, Thomas always viewed intellectual knowledge as a means of drawing closer to God. He is honored as one of the Church’s greatest teachers and was declared a Doctor of the Church for his enduring contributions to Christian doctrine.
