Saint Perpetua was a young Christian noblewoman from Carthage who suffered martyrdom during the persecution of Christians in the early third century. Despite being a new mother and facing intense pressure from her family and authorities to renounce her faith, she remained steadfast in her commitment to Jesus Christ. While imprisoned, Perpetua recorded a remarkable account of her experiences, visions, and spiritual struggles, providing one of the earliest firsthand testimonies of Christian martyrdom. Alongside her companions, including Saint Felicity, she courageously faced death in the arena rather than deny her faith. Her witness has inspired Christians for centuries as an example of courage, perseverance, and complete trust in God.
St. Perpetua was declared a saint through the early Church’s tradition of acclamation.
