The Miraculous Medal is a Catholic devotional sacramental associated with the Blessed Virgin Mary and the visions received by Saint Catherine Labouré in Paris in 1830. According to her account, Mary instructed that a medal be made bearing specific symbols and the prayer: “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
After the medal was distributed, many people reported receiving spiritual blessings, conversions, and answers to prayer through Mary’s intercession. Its widespread use led to the popular name “Miraculous Medal.” The medal became a visible sign of trust in God’s grace and a reminder of Mary’s role in leading believers to Christ.
