Tobias (also called Tobiah in some translations) is a central figure in the Book of Tobit. He was the son of the righteous Tobit and is remembered for his obedience, faith, and trust in God. Guided by the angel Saint Raphael the Archangel, Tobias undertook a journey to recover a family debt and, along the way, encountered God’s providential care.
During his travels, Tobias married Sarah after being instructed by Raphael, overcoming the evil spirit that had afflicted her (Tobit 8:1–3). He later returned home and used remedies revealed by Raphael to restore his father’s sight (Tobit 11:7–15). Through these events, Tobias became an example of filial devotion, purity, courage, and faithfulness.
For Christians, Tobias represents trust in God’s guidance and the blessings that come from obedience, prayer, and righteous living.
