Anna the Prophetess was a devout and faithful woman who appears in the Gospel of Luke. She was of great age and had spent much of her life in prayer and fasting in the Temple in Jerusalem. After the birth of Jesus, Anna encountered the infant Christ when Mary and Joseph brought Him to the Temple for His presentation.
Recognizing Jesus as the promised Redeemer, Anna gave thanks to God and spoke about Him to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem. Her life was marked by constant worship, patience, and expectation of God’s salvation.
Anna is remembered as a model of perseverance in prayer and faithful hope in God’s promises, even in advanced age.
