The Presentation refers to the event in which Mary and Joseph brought the infant Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem in accordance with the Law of Moses. There, they presented Him to the Lord and offered the customary sacrifice of the poor. During this visit, the righteous Saint Simeon and the prophetess Anna the Prophetess recognized Jesus as the promised Messiah.
Simeon took the child Jesus into his arms and praised God, proclaiming Him to be a light for revelation to the Gentiles and the glory of Israel. He also foretold that Mary would share in her Son’s suffering, saying that a sword would pierce her soul. The Presentation reveals Jesus as the fulfillment of God’s promises and marks His first appearance in the Temple.
The Presentation symbolizes obedience to God, dedication to the Lord, and the revelation of Christ as the Savior of all peoples.
