The Grotto of Lourdes, also known as the Grotto of Massabielle, is one of the most important Christian pilgrimage sites in the world. Located in Lourdes, France, it is the place where the Blessed Virgin Mary is reported to have appeared to Saint Bernadette Soubirous in 1858.
During a series of apparitions, Bernadette was instructed to pray, do penance, and encourage devotion to God. At Mary’s direction, a spring was uncovered at the grotto. The water from this spring became associated with numerous reports of physical and spiritual healings, making Lourdes a major destination for pilgrims seeking prayer, healing, and renewal of faith.
Today, millions of pilgrims visit the grotto each year. The site remains a place of prayer, Eucharistic devotion, reconciliation, and hope for those who seek God’s grace through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
