Saint Dismas is the traditional name given to the Good Thief, the criminal who was crucified alongside Jesus and who repented during his final hours. While one of the criminals mocked Christ, Dismas acknowledged his own guilt, defended Jesus’ innocence, and humbly asked to be remembered when Jesus came into His kingdom.
In response, Jesus gave one of the most powerful promises in Scripture: “Today you will be with me in Paradise.” Because of this, Dismas is often regarded as the first person to receive the promise of heaven directly from the crucified Christ after His redemptive sacrifice.
Dismas is remembered as a profound example of repentance, mercy, and hope. His story demonstrates that God’s grace remains available even at the final moments of life and that sincere faith and repentance can open the way to salvation.

Dismas rebukes the other criminal, acknowledges his guilt, and receives Jesus’ promise of Paradise.
