The Prince of the Heavenly Host is a title traditionally given to Saint Michael the Archangel, who is portrayed in Scripture and Christian tradition as the chief defender of God’s people and commander of the heavenly armies. Michael’s name means “”Who is like God?”” and serves as a declaration of God’s supreme authority over all creation.
In the Bible, Michael appears as a protector of God’s people and as a warrior against the forces of evil. The Book of Revelation depicts him leading the heavenly hosts in battle against the dragon, symbolizing Satan and his rebellion against God. Because of this role, Michael has long been invoked by Christians for protection, spiritual strength, and assistance in spiritual warfare.
Christian tradition honors Michael not as a source of power in himself, but as a faithful servant of God who carries out the divine will. He is seen as a model of obedience, courage, humility, and unwavering loyalty to God.
